Uhuru Kenyatta reveals that in order to prevent bloodshed, he did not send police to Raila’s mock swearing in. President Uhuru has clarified the reasons why, in the wake of Raila Odinga’s mock swearing in in 2018, he did not take action against the leader of Azimio La Umoja.
In January 2018, Raila took the oath of office as the president of the people, which was viewed as treason by some.
Uhuru revealed he did not dispatch police to prevent carnage during a meeting with religious leaders on Friday, July 8 in his lawn in Mount Kenya.

Returning to his native Kikuyu, the head of state recounted how his choice caused the opposition to pause and reconsider their course of action before contacting him for negotiations. Uhuru went on to say that he was willing to resign from his position in order to save lives and that life is more important than power.
