WhatsApp services restored after major outage

WhatsApp Outage: WhatsApp was previously down today for millions of users who were left unable to send or receive messages on the app.

Whatsapp

WhatsApp went down in a major outage affecting the communications app for two hours today. The service started experiencing issues at around 10.20AM EAT, with users greeted with a “connecting” message. WhatsApp web also showed a “make sure your computer has an active internet connection” error. The issues affected users globally, and were resolved around 12 Noon EAT.

“We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages and we’re working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible,” said Meta spokesperson Joshua Breckman in an initial statement to The Verge.

This was the first major WhatsApp outage since the service went down as part of a massive outage that also took down Instagram, Messenger, Oculus, and Facebook last year. That outage took nearly six hours before it was resolved and WhatsApp was back online. Meta, known as Facebook at the time, said that major outage was due to a configuration change to its routers.

WhatsApp down? Chat app not working as thousands left unable to send messages

Thousands of WhatsApp users are struggling to send messages this morning with the popular chat app suffering a major outage. Here’s all the latest WhatsApp news and updates.

If you’re trying and failing to send a WhatsApp message this morning you are not alone. The hugely popular service, which boasts over 2 billion users worldwide, has been hit by some serious gremlins which have left thousands of fans unable to use the platform or speak to friends and family. When trying to chat, many are simply seeing the clock icon on their messages which means they haven’t been sent.

The problems appear to have begun at around 11.20am EAT and there are still plenty of people who can’t use the service with many complaining that their accounts are offline.

It’s currently unclear what is causing the problems but Down Detector, which monitors web issues across the globe, is showing some 13,000 reports which means this is a major problem for the Meta-owned firm.

Along with reports flooding in on Down Detector, users have also flocked to social media platforms to vent their frustration at the outage.

Users are seeing the clock icon when sending messages

There’s currently no word on what is causing the glitch, how widespread it is or when it will be fixed but users will know when their messages have finally been sent via WhatsApp’s tick system.

A single tick means the message has been posted, double ticks show it’s been received and two blue ticks show things have been read.
