The Media Council of Kenya, according to Emmanuel Talam, a spokesman for Deputy President William Ruto, has favored ODM leader Raila Odinga. He made these remarks after MCK reports revealed that working with Raila makes journalists feel safer. Despite a report indicating that the DP received more media attention than the ODM leader over the past two weeks, Ruto’s assistant has made threats that he will not be attending the long awaited presidential debate on July 26th.

Emmanuel Talam, a communication assistant in the deputy president’s office, stated in a statement on Thursday, July 14, that Ruto would not take part in a discussion whose organizers have adopted a position.
According to Talam, the Media Council of Kenya has already demonstrated that it is in favor of Raila Odinga, a candidate for the Azimio la Umoja party, running for president.
Talam claimed that Ruto’s participation in the debate would be the same as putting an end to Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign.
Despite MCK’s research showing that the Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate received more media coverage than Raila Odinga in the two weeks under scrutiny, Ruto’s assistant has made threats. William Ruto received 46% of the airtime, while Raila Odinga received 45%, according to MCK data. The MCK report’s conclusion that journalists across the nation felt safer working with Raila than Ruto may have upset William Ruto’s staff.

According to the MCK research, William Ruto’s low approval rating was influenced by recent instances in which journalists were asked to leave his event.

Ruto also claimed there was a plot afoot in a segment of the mainstream media to disparage his Kenya Kwanza campaigns and individuals associated with the alliance, according to a statement released by his campaign team and Director of Communications Hussein Mohammed. The presidential discussion amongst the four contenders was set for July 26 by the organizing committee.
